The research areas of the UMSA/Asdi Program are strategically defined to address critical challenges and promote progress in various aspects of sustainable development. Each area reflects the commitment of the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Asdi) to the generation of innovative knowledge and the training of highly skilled professionals.
Research Areas
The UMSA/Sida Program 2021-2025 has identified key areas for research, aligned with the Social Determinants of Health and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These strategic areas include Research Management, agri-food, natural resources and biodiversity, technological and productive development, health and socioeconomic, and educational cultural.

Agri-food:
In the field of agri-food, there is a commitment to multidisciplinary academic work with a focus on the food biodiversity of Bolivia.

Renewable Energy and Materials:
Focuses its efforts on research and training to promote sustainable solutions in Renewable Energy and Materials, fostering energy efficiency and the training of professionals in this sector.

Technological and Productive Development:
The research focuses on biotechnology and process engineering to optimize agri-food production, including biological pretreatments, fermentation, and biocatalysis..

Health:
It contributes to epidemiological research, with a focus on the social and economic foundations for disease control, including chronic diseases.

Socio-Economic Educational Cultural:
It aims to strengthen the research capacity of UMSA by generating a critical mass of doctors focused on the socioeconomic and productive areas of the country.

Management in Research:
The program promotes continuous improvement through the identification and application of best practices, thereby contributing to the strengthening of research capacity.
